The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya, part 3 – M-M-Mikuru Beam!

Sometimes I wonder why Haruhi chose the people she chose as her "friends." As far as her directorial debut goes, I have some empathy for her. Her lead actress can barely get dressed on her own, her main villain is about as emotive as a coffee table, her do-everything camera man is a grumpy naysayer and Koizumi is well… Koizumi.

Spice and Wolf, season 2, episode 8 – Unmasking the mask

A strange thought occurred to me as Horo talked about listening to the various groups of arguing merchants – does Horo have two sets of working ears? She has the clearly visible and moeblob okami ears, and every indication is that they’re not just decorative. But what about Horo’s human ears? Do they work too? If so, I wonder how her brain is wired. I should really stop thinking about the anatomical workings of a fictional wolf-human god. Anyway, onto another solid episode of Spice and Wolf.

Umineko no Naku Koro Ni, episode 8 – The graduation of furniture

As they, it’s not a murder mystery party until you have a bunch of demon goat butlers wielding d-swords. Also, what the heck is "Week Square"? Don’t studios have someone proofread their stuff before it airs? DEEN’s not the first and won’t be the last. In fact, I think I saw a blatant misspelling in the latest Bakemonogatari episode.

Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea – A review!?

I don’t usually do full out reviews, because I don’t think I’m particularly good at writing them, but I wanted to say something about Ponyo, so what the hell. I didn’t actually watch the Disney dub, but watched a fansub version instead. All the talk about the Disney release reminded me that this movie’s been out in Japan since last year. At some point I do want to check out the Disney dub, because Disney’s Ghibli adaptations are the rare movies where I think the voice dubs are really well done. In fact, I still haven’t seen Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away or Howl’s Moving Castle with the original Japanese voice cast. Anyway onto the review.
