It’s not a hiatus, it’s a vacation! (and not an April Fool’s joke)

Say goodbye

I’m glad April Fool’s is finally over, because I can finally post this without people thinking it’s a big joke. But I’m taking a hiatus vacation. "Hiatus" has such a negative connotation to it, especially in the aniblogsphere, so I’m rebranding it as "vacation." During this vacation I plan on returning from hiatus I mean vacation, a couple times before finally retiring taking a longer, indefinite vacation. You know, it’s been 18 months apparently, so I’m getting close to the croaking age anyway. It’s been a good run.

Actually, I kid, I kid. Sort of. I am actually going on vacation. (Seriously, not a hiatus.) Although the effect is no different I guess. But for good reason, I’m actually taking a trip to Japan for a few weeks! It’s not an "otaku" trip per se. I won’t be visiting Lucky Star Shrine (Washinomiya Shrine). And I’d love to, but probably won’t have the time to visit Ghibli museum. No comikets for me either. Of course, I’ll be stopping by Akihabara for a day, but it’s unlikely I’m going to buy much swag, because I’m hoping to hit Odaiba on that same day. I wouldn’t mind buying my first nendoroid though. I hope I can find a Tsukasa somewhere.

But I think the highlight of my trip will be visiting Shirakawa-go… otherwise known as Hinamizawa! (So if you don’t hear from me after that… pray that I have not succumbed to the curse of Oyashiro-sama). I’ll be there for a day. I hope I can see all the major places… Like Rika’s shrine, the house where Satoko lived, and the bluff where Rika revealed the truth to Akasaka (uh, and Rika… and Hanyuu… and Rena… or at least the billhook…mmm, maybe not the billhook). I’ll also be visiting Kyoto and the rest of Tokyo (Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Ginza, Roppongi). I’m also hoping to take a side trip to Kamakura at Executive Otaku’s recommendation, and hopefully a trip to Mount Fuji as well. In between there, I’ll also be visiting some smaller cities here and there to take up the rest of the time.

So I’m leaving next week and I’ll be gone, basically until the end of April. I’ll have an Internet connection in most of the places I’m staying in Japan, but I have no idea whether I’ll have much time to download anime and write any posts (or any posts with Japan pics for that matter). To be on the safe side, I’m not counting on it. This probably means the First Impressions posts I typically do will either not happen or will be heavily delayed. Although I was very happy to hear that both aroduc and psgels were quite pleased with B Gata H Kei. I’m think that show will bust all expectations and be a big sleeper hit. As for shows I’m planning to cover this season. Usually I go for at least two, but I’ll probably just stick with Angel Beats this season – and even those posts will probably be heavily delayed for the first month.

So, if I’m sparse over the next month you know why. But I’ll be back in May, for real. Because it’s not a hiatus dammit (I’m not dead yet)! In the meanwhile, be nice to Libera and Janette as they become a little more comfy here!

As a friend of mine is fond of saying: Don’t die. :p

    1. I hope so. That was why I timed it in April, but apparently the sakura’s bloomed a couple weeks early this year orz. I hope they’re still around when I get there. 🙂

  2. Whenever in doubt use words like kawaii, nekko or sugoi. Also use ~desu at the of each sentence, no matter what the content is. Real Japanese will understand you.

It was nice knowing you, RP. Even if you’re caught in loop we’ll remember you :p Pay no attention if the people around you start disappearing while you’re staying at Hinamizawa though. That is totally normal.

Make us proud and take plenty of photos! 💡

  3. Have a good trip! If your time in Akihabara is short and you want a decent one-stop shop for anime stuff, I’d recommend AsoBit City (head out of Akihabara JR station’s Electric Town exit, go to the main street, cross it, turn right and follow the main street, go two or three blocks and then make a right into the back streets, it’s about one or two blocks in from the main street and fairly big so it should be easy to spot. Sorry I can’t be more exact, I mostly knew my way there from memory.) The one level of Yodobashi Camera is alright too if you want mecha models and gashapon machine items.

Enjoy Kyoto too! I never got the chance to go there, but it should be really cool in the spring. And Kamakura…I miss it so, you lucky bastard 😛 Feel free to email me if you need any more recommendations or anything.

    1. Thanks for the info! I’ll definitely try to check out AsoBit (my biggest fear is that I’m going to get lost everywhere since I can’t read Japanese :p )
